  9.          DESCRIPTION:
  10.  
  11.          Hangem is a WINDOWS 3.X version of the well-known word-guessing
  12.          game. This version, however, has more options than most that
  13.          we have encountered, and good graphics.
  14.  
  15.          The game allows for one player or two. Scores are kept, and
  16.          the 'GAME-SCORE' may be changed from it's default of 5 correct
  17.          words to as few as 2 or as many as thirty. Also if two players
  18.          are playing, there is an option to enter single words instead
  19.          of using the internal words, so that each player may enter a 
  20.          word for the other to guess. There are several hundred words
  21.          in the program which are picked randomly. Entered words may not
  22.          exceed 14 letters.

  25.          HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:
  26.  
  27.          As this is a Windows program, it requires WINDOWS 3.X, and all
  28.          associated requirements. A mouse is not necessary, but is highly
  29.          recommended.

  31.          The file VBRUN100.DLL is also required to be available to the
  32.          program. We have distributed it along with the other program
  33.          files, but if you don't seem to have it, it may be that the
  34.          distributor from whom you got the program has removed it. The
  35.          file is very common, and readily available from almost any
  36.          distributor or BBS.

  39.          INSTRUCTIONS:
  40.  
  41.          There are some internal instructions in the program, and we
  42.          assume that almost everybody is familiar with the HANGMAN
  43.          type game, so these instructions will mainly be particular to
  44.          THIS program:
  45.  
  46.          Most of the options are available through the pull-down menu,
  47.          and some of these must be set before doing anything else. Once
  48.          the Next Word button is pressed, the game begins with current
  49.          option settings...some of which can't be changed without re-
  50.          starting.
  51.  
  52.          First, choose Options, to decide if one person or two will
  53.          be playing. This will bring up a box in which to enter names
  54.          of the players. Please do not enter names over 12 characters.
  55.          If this option is not chosen at the start of a game, default
  56.          is one player, and default name is Player #1.
  57.  
  58.          If only one person is playing, the second score box will show
  59.          number of missed words, otherwise, it keeps track of player
  60.          #2's score.
  61.  
  62.          If two players is chosen, from the same menu, you can choose
  63.          single entry words, or internal randomized words. If single
  64.          is chosen, at the beginning of each player's turn, his opponent
  65.          will input a word for him to guess instead of using the words
  66.          contained in the program.

  68.          Next option which must be set BEFORE starting the game is the
  69.          SCORE option, where you can choose the score which you will
  70.          play to. Note that only correctly guessed words count as score.
  71.  
  72.          After you have chosen these settings, you may begin the game by
  73.          pressing the Next word button. When this is done, several
  74.          asterisks will show in the upper box, one to represent each letter
  75.          of the word. At the bottom, the player who's turn it is will
  76.          be shown next to a space where their letter selection will
  77.          appear. About in the middle will be the alphabet, minus any
  78.          letters already used.
  79.  
  80.          To guess a letter, just press the letter, you don't need to
  81.          press [ENTER]. The man in the picture will appear as you miss
  82.          letters. If you have not disabled sound and messages, you
  83.          will hear a beep and get a message describing what you just
  84.          lost or won. The sound and message options are available at any
  85.          time during the game, and remain as set if you press Replay.
  86.          Note that SOME of the messages and beeps cannot be disabled.

  89.          INSTALLATION:
  90.  
  91.          Although there are really only 2 files needed to run this
  92.          program, an installation program is included: INSTY.EXE.
  93.          It will only install HANGEM.EXE and VBRUN100.DLL.
  94.

  96.          To use it, place your program disk (or backup thereof) in
  97.          your diskette drive and log onto that drive. Then type INSTY.
  98.          The installation will then read the directory to see where it
  99.          is located, and after you press [ENTER] you will go to the
  100.          main screen where a destination drive/directory will be
  101.          suggested. In this case it will say C:\WINDOWS. If this is
  102.          where your Windows program is, just press [ENTER] and it
  103.          will install there. Otherwise, specify the driveletter and
  104.          directory where your Windows program is, and then press [ENTER].

  106.          OR, you may start WINDOWS, and choose RUN from the program
  107.          manager and then key in A:\INSTY or whatever your diskette
  108.          drive designation is, then follow the rest of the above
  109.          instructions.

  111.          NOTE that if you specify an EXTREMELY long directory name,
  112.          the installation program will not work.
  113.  
  114.          After your program is copied or installed, from within Windows
  115.          program manager you should select NEW to ADD the program ICON
  116.          to your desktop. See your Windows manual if you need help here.

  144.          distributors.

  148.             the author. To register, send your fee of $5.00 in U.S.

  150.             printer, print the included file INVOICE.DOC.
